HISTORY
City Uprising is a movement to propel the Church to prosper the City. Rooted in Jeremiah 33:9, City Uprising began by asking the question, "What would this city look like if the Church came together to meet some of its biggest needs, in Jesus' name?"
Beginning in New York City in 2008, City Uprising mobilized over 150 local and partner church volunteers to serve the City. They completely rehabilitated a city park, conducted a single-day HIV testing initiative, and conducted a free art show in the city's art district.
City Uprising has since grown to several cities with the participation of hundreds of volunteers from partner churches and the local community.
In Baltimore alone, City Uprising has served more than four city parks, six city schools, and has tested nearly 3000 people for HIV, linking them to care and other supports. City Uprising served for three days in Brooklyn, cleaning the hillside of a local park to restore a view once enjoyed by local people. And in New Jersey, City Uprising cleaned a local park and landscaped a woman's yard, clearing a path, so she could walk to her mailbox.
In all of these City Uprisings, the most important work accomplished by the Church was displaying God's love through acts of selfless service and propelling the church to prosper the City. City Uprising is now expanding to several other major U.S. cities, from New Orleans to our nation's capital in D.C.
